'Huss in Boots' can create a party in minutes with
toe-tapping jigs and reels or provide a relaxing atmosphere with some

all the best of old Irish drinking songs while contemporary pop and

the night.

Ceilí Moss |
|
|
|
|
CEILÍ MOSS is an acoustic folk-rock band from Belgium founded in 1996. We describe ourselves as "acoustic folk-rock with guts and melodies, with a Northern European edge (from Ireland to Romania via Flanders, Sweden, Brittany and Poland), not afraid of colouring a bit outside of the lines". Perhaps it is Genevieve Williams from Widdershins who described us best: "They are not as punk as The Pogues, but they have a bit of that attitude and it gives them an edge many folk groups lack". Other frequently heard comparisons are Ambrozijn, Tri Yann, Jaune Toujours, Les Ogres de Barback, the old Clannad...
Like many folkbands, we started by playing the "Drunken Danny rover of the County Down in the jar", but we have constantly broadened our musical spectrum with Flemish, Scandinavian, klezmer, medieval, Eastern European, ska, Balkan, kleinkunst, chanson, singer-songwriter or bluesy sounds. We play an approximately even mix of our own tunes sung in English, French or Dutch, and of traditionals, sometimes played the orthodox way, often totally reengineered.
Ceilí, I guess most of you know, is an Irish word for a party with traditional dance music. Moss was the nickname of Alain Mossiat, boss of the pub "L'Eblouissant", in Namur, where we first learned to deal with stage fright, back in the early 90s. |

During my school going days I am sad to say I had absolutly no interest in Miss Crotty's Computer Class ! It all got off to a bad start when I developed a habit for pasting Tipp-Ex on the monitor everytime I made a spelling mistake.
I was banished to the back of the class where upon I fell into the seedy underworld known as "The Tractor Club". Here we sat talking about JCB diggers and drawing pictures of Ford 7610's.
In the mid 90's I thought I was saved from the technological wilderness when I started courting a young lady whom worked for a large computer firm. For a while it was good-bye floppy disc and hello hard drive, but that floated away like a stick in the Slaney !
Since then I have been performing my music all over the country, and further-a-field, and now find it necessary to relate it to the world via my new website.
So enjoy your visit and leave the key under the mat when you leave !
See you down the road,
Liam Byrne |
